I have a confession – I love a great black dress. I have a closet full of black dresses. Each black dress is a different shape and style. Even though I have a closet full of little black dresses I’m always looking for the perfect black dresses. It’s a bit out of control but I have a great explanation. Black dresses are awesome! I can’t explain it any other way. In my opinion, black dresses are versatile, they can be dressed up or down, and worn all year long. I scored this little black dress for under $20 in early Spring and I’ve worn it so many times I’ve lost count. I’ve styled this dress both up and down and I love each look I’ve created.
I find swing style dresses to be flattering for my shape because I am wider in my hip area than in my shoulder area. Most would refer to my shape as a Pear. While I’m a proud Pear and I frequently use the hashtag #proudpear I’m trying to stop using the label. I want to dress for my shape but I also just want to be a shape and not a label. Sometimes when I read articles about body shapes the article usually focuses on what are considered trouble areas to conceal. I’m in love with my whole shape so no covering was needed but let’s be real. Certain cuts and fits flatter certain features of our bodies and the swing style dress flatters my shape.
I paired this dress with a pair of flip wedges I’ve had for a couple of seasons and my fav Louis. I kept my jewelry minimal because I wanted the dress to do the talking. I don’t expect to score another cute dress for under $20 again for awhile but I’ve linked some similar styles below for under $50. Enjoy!
