Lately, several people have commented on how long my hair is and how much it’s grown this year. In this post, I’m outlining the way I care for my long hair. My hair care routine isn’t an elaborate process but it does require some work. Also, I should mention that I have long, thick, oily hair. Even though I have thick hair the texture of my hair is fine and delicate. I have to be very careful with my hair by being gentle, using quality products, and minimal heat.
Let’s talk hair cuts
If you want long hair there is one simple step you must take – stop cutting it. You can’t grow your hair out if you’re constantly cutting it. I trim my hair. Trim is a word you must use with caution because there are varying meanings to the word. A trim to me is a slight pinch of hair and way less than an inch. let’s summarize:
Cut less than an inch off your hair every other month or so. I often go a few months or longer between trims. I know what you’re thinking – what do I do with the dry ends? The answer my friend, is product.
The products I use
You need products that work. I outlined the three products I use and how I use them below:
Wide Tooth Comb – I use a wide tooth comb to gently remove tangles. I linked a similar product to what I use here. I’ve found the key is the thicker the teeth of the comb the better the comb works. Also, never brush your hair when wet.
I use Moroccan Oil every single day and have for the last three years. This product is a bit pricey but I use it every single day and it’s truly a miracle serum. I would rather purchase a product that works than waste time and money on multiple products that are cheap and don’t work. I use the all hair types version of the product and it keeps my hair smooth, shiny, and manageable. The key is to apply the product from the ends and about 3-4 inches up. I never apply the product to the roots of my hair.
I wash my hair every day because of oil buildup. Rarely, I will wash every other day. I use this shampoo and conditioner. I love TRESemmé products because their convenient to purchase, have a low price point, and provide excellent quality and results.
As always, this advice is based on my personal experience with the above products. I hope these tips help you grow healthy and strong hair.
