Style Guide: Adding Pieces That Pop

black-sweater leopard_heels all_black_outift

Add pieces that pop, sounds easy enough huh? Well, that is exactly what we’re going to talk about today. Nothing makes me happier than an all black outfit. Remember when I refused to give up wearing black even in summer, and I was obsessed with the summer LBD? Yeah, I’m out of control sometimes with the color black.

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the past year of blogging it’s what works for my shape and what doesn’t. That realization also covers color. I’ve learned some colors flatter my body while others just don’t. Sounds simple enough but honestly the mental image of an outfit can be so far off.  I’ve always thought my all black outfits were so bad a** , and some of them were. Overall though, a bit of color isn’t a bad thing. I can keep my sleek all black looks while adding pieces that pop.

I found these Sam Edelman leopard pony hair pumps off-season and I was instantly drawn to them. I’m not an animal print person whatsoever. I couldn’t resist though, these pumps are so sleek and they were comfortable. How could I say no? Obviously, I didn’t. I snatched these bad boys up.

This sweater is amazing, it’s the perfect mix of slouchy and structured. I’m also a fan of these Paige ponte jersey pants. Soft, stretchy, and still fitted – perfect. I knew I wanted an all black look with these two specific pieces. By adding the leopard pumps I gave the outfit some personality.  I felt polished, pulled together, sleek, and sexy all rolled into one. You won’t see me going crazy with animal prints but I’ll be pairing these pumps in the future for sure.

I’ve also styled this all black outfit with sneakers since shooting this look and I loved the all black sporty look as well. I mentioned I purchased these pumps off-season but a variation is still available. I’m linking the heels, sweater, and pants below as well. Enjoy!
