Little Black Skirts
If you’ve followed my blog for a bit you know I’m a huge fan of wearing all black outfits and I love a great black dress (post here). I feel elegant and like a boss babe when I’m wearing all black. I can’t explain it and I’m not even going to try. Just take my word for it, put on an all-black outfit and let me know how you feel. A little black skirt is equally as great as an all-black outfit and a great fitting LDB. In fact, I may love a little black skirt more than an LBD. If not, then very very close. Just as I’m falling in love with skirts and dresses two issue always popup over and over again. Fit and weather. Both of these suck the life out of my style.
Invest in Alterations
Skirts and dresses are often trouble for me. I’ve posted before about dressing for my shape and the struggles I have. I’m pear shaped and though I love the shape of my body it can be very hard to find a skirt that fits my waits, hips, and height. I’m 5’9 and a common clothing issue for me is skirts and dresses are too short. Most of the time dresses are more of a shirt than a dress. If I do find a skirt or dress that is long enough I can have the waist or hip adjusted to fit. Most of the time this works out nicely but it is a pain to get done.
I live in an area where the options are limited and it’s a take what you can get kind of thing. In summary, I hate having altrnations done. As much as I hate it, I have to do it. Clothes just feel better when they are altered to fit your body. If you’re not having alterations done, start now. It may seem pricey at first but for me, I feel like I get more wear out of what I buy instead of trying to replace pieces that just don’t fit comfortably. Pay for alteration and get more bang for your buck is my advice. Occasionally, something will fit off the rack and when that happens it is amazing. It took awhile for me to find a black skirt that was unique and had a great fit but I finally found it! Imagine how excited I was when I put this little black skirt on and it fit everywhere! Such joy!
Transition Your Dresses and Skirts into Winter
I’ve worn this skirt so many ways with everything from duster cardigans to thigh-high boots. The options are pretty much endless. As the weather gets colder I’ll easily transition this skirt into Winter with tights and ankle boots. Isn’t it amazing what a pair of tights can do? Almost every summer dress I own looks great with tights and a cardigan. If you live in an area that’s cold and bitter all Winter long, don’t let Winter get you down. Experiment with tights and textures of tights, you’re sure to find a combination you love. I don’t experiment with colored tights very often but I do love fleece lined tights. It’s like a warm hug on my legs all day long. I don’t know about you but how I dress affects my mood so I try to stay stylish and warm to keep my mood up in the Winter. Sounds silly but it works.
This skirt is from Express and I did pick it up on sale. Sadly, I can’t link the exact skirt for you but I’ve gathered up some very comparable options for you. If you don’t own a LBS (Is that a thing?) get one asap. You’ll feel like a babe and have endless style options through each season. Enjoy!
